Bulletstorm studio’s mysterious Project Dagger is officially dead-

Project Dagger, a “new action-adventure IP” that had been in development at People Can Fly since 2020, has been officially cancelled. The studio said in a report released earlier this month that the decision to halt development was made following an “unsatisfactory” evaluation of the current state of the game.

Trouble with Project Dagger first came to light in 2022, when Take-Two Interactive terminated its publishing deal for the game and did not exercise its option to buy out the rights to the project. “We strongly believe in Project Dagger’s potential and are now committed to continue its development within our self-publishing pipeline,” the studio said at the time. It acknowledged that the change would place added costs on the studio, but added that “self-publishing is pa…

It’s been a frustrating 18 months since launch but we’ll finally be getting PCIe 5 SSDs worth a damn this year-

Good news everyone, the only PCIe 5.0 SSD controller that currently makes any damned sense is starting to ship out to drive manufacturers. Fingers crossed that means we ought to see some Gen5 drives worth a damn before the end of the year.

The SiliconMotion SM2508 memory controller (pdf warning) has been delayed a couple of times, reportedly in order to switch to a more advanced 6nm process at TSMC. We initially expected it to come around earlier this year, but now it is finally being sent out to manufacturers for them to create their own SSDs built around this new controller.

But what is it about this new wee bit of silicon that might make PCIe 5 SSDs relevant? In short, it’s the mix of straight-line storage performance and efficiency. Half of that equation has already been…

New World and Lost Ark players aren’t happy as Amazon closes forums in favor of Discord-

Remember when we asked everyone to please stop making Discord servers for things that shouldn’t be Discord servers? Apparently Amazon wasn’t listening, as it has revealed plans to shut down the forums for its New World and Lost Ark MMOs in favor of—you guessed it—Discord servers.

“With the launch of our official New World Discord along with the features, functionality, and accessibility for players we have made the decision to embrace Discord as our primary engagement platform for New World moving forward,” Amazon said. “To help us add as much value as possible to our Discord server, we will be sunsetting the New World forums which will allow our staff to focus on providing quality engagement opportunities in a central, and easily accessible platform.”

Ironhive turns colony survival into deck-building and is inspired by one of the best tabletop world-building games around-

In a genre as oversatured as city builders, it’s sometimes hard to find original concepts, but Ironhive is attempting to reinvent the tried-and-tested formula through deck-building. In this colony survival game, you’re tasked with overseeing the Iron Hive; a rusting bastion where the last remnants of humanity huddle together against the end of the world.

As the Iron Lord, you’ve got to balance your people’s survival with staying in their good graces, lest they depose you Frostpunk-style. The arrival of each new season brings its own challenges. Narrative events require you to make tricky moral choices about the future of your city, while you’ll need to spend your ever-dwindling number of cards wisely to make sure you don’t exhaust all your possible actions.

It’s a stre…

Blizzard buzzkills fix Diablo 4’s best bug-

A new Diablo 4 patch has arrived with a number of welcome fixes and bugs, including adjustments to the UI that will hopefully cut down on the number of unintentional premium battle pass activations. But there’s one change it makes to the game that, to be blunt, I am very disappointed by.

First things first, the good stuff. Complaints about the Diablo 4 interface surfaced earlier this week: The Digital Deluxe and Ultimate editions of the game include one premium battle pass unlock, which can be used for any season—the problem is that the button to activate it appears as soon as the Season Journey menu is opened, and worse, the cursor automatically centers on it. That led to a number of people using their unlock by accident, and accusations that Blizzard was using ele…

Silent Hill Ascension’s first trailer promises your choice of redemption, suffering, or damnation-

Silent Hill Ascension was announced in 2022 as a “massively interactive live event,” featuring art and sound design from JJ Abram’s Bad Robot Games studio. We didn’t have a whole lot to go on at the time except that it looked to be a sort of “Twitch Plays” take on Silent Hill: The announcement said Ascension will “immerse participants around the globe in the psychological horror at the heart of Silent Hill in an unparalleled way—by putting an all-new Silent Hill story and characters into the hands of the audience as the narrative unfolds, live on multiple platforms.”

Today we have a slightly clearer idea of what’s in store courtesy of developer Genvid Entertainment, which described the series as following multiple people from around the world as they’re “tormented by new and…

Overwatch 2’s new support heals with flowers and can yank you out of danger-

Overwatch 2’s new support hero is Lifeweaver, a Thai healer with unprecedented utility.

Blizzard dropped a screenshot of Lifeweaver on Twitter and says more details will come out tomorrow, but a PCGamesN article—which was posted prematurely and has now been taken down—revealed a number of details about the character.

Blizzard says that Lifeweaver is similar to a World of Warcraft Druid. He’s all about helping people with nature, or sci-fi nature known as “Biolight”. Biolight is an alternative to the Hardlight tech that Symmetra uses for her abilities, like her massive barrier ultimate. He’s also the game’s first openly pansexual character, which will surely create some fun pre-match conversations between the existing heroes.

With his Biolight, Lifeweaver ca…
